Still No Sign of Land … ?

For a while now, I’ve been monitoring the status of the flag on my mailbox each day, as I’ve been expecting the arrival of a somewhat significant package from afar. At some point, I started capturing pictures of the flag on the mailbox, some days up, some days down, with the intent of posting the mailbox picture on the day of arrival. Alas, no package as of yet.

Friend and colleague (and a good source of inside information — shirt and sock design expert) Giulia suggested that I make an animated GIF of the mailbox flag, but given that the images have been captured from various angles on various days, it seemed better to grab a new sequence — and using a tripod. However, that presented a difficulty, as the tripod was at school. So a little jury rigging was required.

In the end, the images, captured on the iPhone, were stitched together into an animated GIF using the Giffer app, posted, #twHaikued, and tweeted:

After a little more waiting, I dispatched a DM over the Twitter to determine if the package might have become lost in the mail. And as things would turn out, it appears that a number of folks (me included) will have a nice, warming package arrive soon in the coming days. Happy times!

When that day arrives, I will shift from Monty Python’s “Still No Sign of Land,” to Steve Martin’s “The New Phone Book’s Here ….”
