Jim Groom, Edupunk, REMIXED, by aforgrave, on Flickr
Jim Groom (
@jimgroom, on Twitter), the dynamic energy behind the
ds106 open online digital storytelling course (as well as in-person sections at University of Mary Washington), is listed on Wikipedia in conjunction with the term,
EduPunk. The original photo for this GIF comes from that entry, along with the ds106radio Twitter icon.
Jim was on ds106radio this evening, and he was having fun. So much fun, in fact, that he kept singing HB’s well known ds106radio theme, over and over. After about the third time, I managed to capture a recording. A brief selection of his musical renderings was remixed into “Jim Groom ds106radio REMIXED.”
Way to go Jim! You know, and you show, that ds106 rocks!
This is a lot of fun, and I had no idea my voice was THAT good! 🙂 This reminds me a lot of Tom Woodward’s re-mixes of Gardner (or Brian Lamb, Jason Toal, and Scott Leslie’s early remix stuff in 2007). Though there was much more there there in Tom’s content cause it was Gardner, but this idea of turning random play and thought into artistic action is fun. One of the very coolest things to emerge from ds106 in my mind is the radio DJing skills of DJDrJones, the formation of the Dead MOOCmen—a band rounded out beautifully by some sick talent in Potter, Kernohan, Toal, Leslie, and many more. The general air of electric creativity happening there. Not to mention breaking bread with the great Dr Garcia—who I was talking to with this madness! I hate to be amiss about how awesome the radio space is, and with going on two years you demonstrate why it is still so fun. Thanks Andrew, you have been nothing short of en fuego here as of late. Your Christmas GIftivus GIFs were amazing. I think 2013 is your year. Smoking!
As for EDUPUNK- it’s got a new name!
