How you tell it matters

{verse 1}

I'm gonna write myself a letter
About where I've been and why
Setting down what really matters
If I can just get the words right

When we met I told you a story
And I sat rapt while you told yours
We made our lives up out of some inarticulate perfect glory
And laid our rocks on the opposite shore

{chorus}

I walk a lonely road
Carrying these stones
Looking for someplace to rest
these weary bones
Tell my stories and I'll sing my songs
Create a place I might belong

{verse 3}

I think a lot about the place I'm from
Where the forest meets the sea
And even if you're from Ontario-a-zona
You might feel the same as me

So what's your flag mean? Who's on your currency?
What's your sport at the Olympic Games?
Don't we share something between all of us?
And where you're from did they give it a name?

{chorus}

We're walking lonely roads,
carrying stones
Looking for someplace to rest
these weary bones
We'll tell our stories and we'll
sing these songs
Create a place we'll all belong

D / C / G X 3
D / C / G / D
G / D / G

{Verse 5}

Looking 'cross waves
where Tom Thompson painted
Strum some chords
on the Golden Spruce
Take these smoke and mirrors we're made of
Carry home a little truth
