ECOO Equity Statement

Educational Computing Organization of Ontario (ECOO) is a non-profit organization that facilitates the integration of new computing technology into the educational curriculum.

As the majority of its members are K-12 educators, ECOO acts as an Ontario Subject/Division Association and as such believes that its directors and members should work according to the Guiding Principles of Ontario’s Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy.

Those principles state that:

Equitable and inclusive education:

  • is a foundation of excellence;
  • meets individual needs;
  • identifies and eliminates barriers;
  • promotes a sense of belonging;
  • involves the broad community;
  • builds on and enhances previous and existing initiatives;
  • is demonstrated throughout the system.

To show its commitment to the importance of this work, ECOO has created and adopted the following:

Equity Statement

ECOO directors and members recognize the importance of encouraging and supporting involvement by all members, while recognizing that some members have historically been marginalized.

For the organization to be at its best, all members must see themselves reflected in its goals, structures, and practices. ECOO will strive to identify and eliminate barriers to participation through its bylaws, governance, and policies, in its resources, and at its events.

ECOO supports equity, diversity, and social justice within its members, directors, publications, events, and in broader society.

Not all discrimination is deliberate or visible. Inadvertent, hidden, and systemic discrimination must be identified and addressed.
