As was the case last year, the 2021 event will take place online, and will be between individuals rather than the usual teams. The 2020 programming contest drew over 600 students from across Ontario. We are looking forward to similar participation this year. 

Tentative timeline leading up to the event is as follows. More detail will be forthcoming. 

• March 22 – April 14th – Registration window
• Early April – practice contest problems
• Mid April – practice contest window
• May 1st – ECOO-CS Programming Contest

For thirty-seven years, ECOO has hosted an annual programming contest for secondary students. From the first contest in 1984 through to today, these competitions have brought together “the cream of the crop” of Ontario secondary school computer science programming teams. The ECOO-CS SIG (special interest group) has coordinated the contest each year. Read the ECOO-CS history in greater detail.

For years, the format of the contest has seen teams of students gather in the spring to compete at regional qualifying rounds in Eastern, Western, and Central Ontario. Subsequent to those events, the the teams which advance come together for a Final event during a Saturday in May.

In 2020, due to the difficulty in bringing folks together, the ECOO-CS Programming Contest took place online. The 2020 event was convened by Ms Valentina Krasteva and her students (Steven Guikal, Junyi Wang, and Evan Zhang) from William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute in Toronto. They were responsible for establishing, setting up, and operating the contest on Saturday, 2 May, from 10am to 3pm. Over 600 students from 110 schools from 21 school boards plus independent schools participated as individuals in this online contest from home.

Valentina and her MCPT student executive will again be convening the 2021 event.
